Long Term > Short Term

Eating healthy is a long-term strategy.

Eating healthy is a long-term strategy.

I know my blog has deep roots and foundation in the notion of action – going for yours, thus putting yourself better position to achieve, accomplish, and conquer.  But more often then not, someone throws you a carrot, and absolute diamond that looks too good to be true; this is the junction you should think about it more, deeply.  But that never happens – instead we pull the trigger and die slowly only to read about our own obituary when we look in the …

How-To Tuesday – How to Live Forever

Abe Alive & Well.

Abe Alive & Well.

I hope when you read this, you find yourself invigorated from a much-needed 3-day weekend.  Today’s post revolves around mortality, life, and what you do with it while you are here.

Consider yesterday, a national holiday that celebrated a great man that has long passed the earth, Martin Luther King, Jr.  His spirit and legacy out-lasted his time on earth, only for him to be revered by what he stood for infinitely.

It also hit me that just on Sunday, the esteemed members of the Literati Book …

Profiles in Passion – Kyle & Improv Comedy.

I'm Kyle O' Neill. And I'm in Orange.

I'm Kyle O' Neill. And I'm in Orange.

Meet Kyle O’Neill, 23.  A former intern at my former employer, and currently a grad student at Rochester’s Institute of Technology.  When I first met him, I took a liking to him, albeit he was an unorthodox soul to me.  He kept telling me of this “troupe” he led, something I had no idea what he was talking about.  But through our precious time together in the summer of 2009, Kyle has become someone I consider a great protégé and of course, …

Sympathy Versus Empathy

The Golden Rule King.

The Golden Rule King.

The two words may rhyme, but this is where the similarity’s at halt.  At fault, we mix and match the two, unintentionally substituting one for the other.

Sympathy is characterized by sharing the feelings of another, especially in sorrow or trouble: fellow feeling, compassion, or commiseration.

Empathy is marked as the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.

Similar? Yes.  The same? No.

With empathy, I keep my feet a shoe-size unisex – for I want to understand you, …

Ralph On Relationships: The Break-Up – What Now?!

What Now?!

What Now?!

It was love at first sight. The period of “getting to know each other” has come to pass. In fact, it’s past maturation, and everything is all downhill from now. Resentment ensues. You’re not sure what you can do, but you know you want OUT. You get your wish – you’re newly single, half-happy your freedom is restored, half-scared that you are alone and you have to start over.

“Although I see you standing there I can’t find you anywhere.” - R. Kelly

And yes, it gets UGLY.

How-To Tuesday’s: How to Overcome Fear

NO FEAR.

NO FEAR.

If you think the economic recession is bad now, imagine the tableau associated with the 1930′s; the Great Depression ravaged our great country, only to birth Franklin Roosevelt’s baby – The New Deal. It represented the “3 R’s” that seemed so vital to the U.S. at the time – Relief, Recovery, Reform. What America needed at that time was hope – to know that there light at the end of a seemingly dark, endless tunnel.  Aside from his policies and crisis management, Roosevelt’s thoughts on fear ascended him …

What I Learned on Sunday – Fluidity.

My only friends over the weekend.

My only friends over the weekend.

My weekend was serene and peaceful –  filled with web surfing, watching my Baltimore Ravens win, on and off reading, and hanging with my parents.  I’m in Florida as some of you may know, parts I rarely go, but it seems as though from circumstances, I’ll be here much more often.  But yesterday, I was supposed to meet an old friend – to chat life, love, and our bond in music.  This was a reschedule from the day before – one where I had …
