How To Tuesday – Fitting in the Beach

Save Long Beach, NY.

Save Long Beach, NY.

After spending a marathon of a time working on the beach the past couple of weeks, I’ve seen some interesting things at the beach, to say the least. Sure it was Memorial Day, everyone had off, but some of the behavior has been quite unruly.  You can find me on the shore at Long Beach, NY, a place known for it’s friendly atmosphere, and it’s high price to get in – some $12 a visit.  But yesterday, it seemed to be justified – the riff raff …

What I Learned on Sunday: Deciding on Decisiveness.

IT MAY NOT ALWAYS BE SUNNY, BUT I'M ALWAYS HERE.

IT MAY NOT ALWAYS BE SUNNY, BUT I'M ALWAYS HERE.

Sunday was another refulgent day, shore side on the sands of Long Beach, NY.  I spent my time enjoying the opulence of the sun, reading, writing and thinking.  Last week was surprising to say the least, on the pleasant side.  I squashed beef with some eternal friends of some 12 and 7 years respectively, and the start to the summer has simply been magical.

But I noticed something yesterday – a concept that I’ve never been able to identify, but …

Sounds of the Summer: SO FAR GONE.

June, July, August's very own.

June, July, August's very own.

Monday 2/16/09 – Phil was nagging me.  It was a week after my 28th birthday and he wanted me to hear this Canadian Rapper/Singer from Degrassi High Fame (a true hard sell).  I was two decades removed from that being my favorite PBS show, at the time a mere adolescent, curious of the taboo subjects in teenage social life, sex, and drugs.

Sure, I gave this Drake a whirl, and his mixtape entitled, “So Far Gone.”  The set was a potpourri mix of Rap, …

Ralph on Relationships – Maintaining your Identity.

I'M STILL ME.

I'M STILL ME.

To all my singles, everything centers on your independence.  As you please, you come and go, at your own discretion.  This is the game, when you’re in the field.  But what about relationships?  Were talking a whole new type of sport.

Being in one to get it right, it takes work, patience, and most importantly happiness to bring things together.  But it’s a tough dance, co-mingling your new life with your old, meshing the two seamlessly.  I’ve always supported not being too dependent on anyone, even the …

How to Tuesday’s: Forgiveness.

I NEVER CHANGE.

I NEVER CHANGE.

It took a pregnancy to get a response.  Yes, the duration of nine months is enough time for one to quit a job, run a marathon, lose a loved one, do damage control and recover, buy a house, and prepare as best as you can with the unpredictability of life.

And since we’re all unique, what will bring us together are our interests, our commonality, and similarities.  What can divide us are our differences, petty disputes, and opposing opinions.

I can’t say I was too surprised.  Danielle …

What I Learned on Sunday: The Root of Motivation.

ALL DAY.

ALL DAY.

As many of you know, I spent the anti-meridian of Sunday’s with my fellow scriber’s only group, Writer’s Smock.  In it we spend all the time, aside from inside jokes, talking about writing.

I birthed the idea, the all things writing ensemble, and with good reason.  It’s my profession, my craft, my passion.

Having said that, I’ll reiterate that I’m in it, the arena of writing, to be the best writer that I can be, each and everyday.  Sure, I want my passion to sustain me a livable …
