What I Learned on Sunday: We Got the Power.

Florida. Getting hotter than the sun get.

Florida. Getting hotter than the sun get.

I hope everyone enjoyed Father’s Day.  I was in Florida last week, enjoying the first one with my Dad in quite some time.  I got to see old friends, and meet some along my travels all over the state, including Orlando, Tampa, and DeBary.  As I heard everyone’s individual stories, you can’t deny that no matter how similar they were, it’s always unique in some way.  The road is long and hard, and if your still alive and are still able to read …

Sounds of the Summer: Thank Me Later

Later is Now.

Later is Now.

Summer 2010 – A year ago this week, one of the most anticipated debut albums of all time came out by one Aubrey Graham.  As he said, at the time, his buzz was so big he could “probably sell a blank disc.”

That debut disc, Thank Me Later, was far from it.  His buzz allowed for an MTV special that ran concurrently with the release as well as an thwarted free concert that would have took place at the South Street Seaport in New York City.

It …

Triage Thursday: Raising your Credibility with Credit.

SWIPE IT OUT.

SWIPE IT OUT.

With Hip-Hop entrapping me, it had an impression on me at a young age.  Growing up listening to it, we thought in order strive in life, we had to drive Benz’s and live it up to the fullest – money, clothes, and gadgets.

As I grew older, I remember my cousin telling me the dangers of using a credit card.  “If you use a credit card, pay it off every month in full,” he said, worried that my future might be his present.  Of course that moment …

This Just Can't Be SummerLove.

This Just Can't Be SummerLove.

Welcome to the middle of June, the very midst of uncuffing season. The weather is warm, and the singles out there are ready to mingle. But it’s hard being single, and being on the same wavelength, some of the time.

Perhaps you’re out there, trying to meet someone, but not for a relationship. You want it strictly physical, just for fun, since this isn’t the time to settle down, especially when there is so much sand at the beach already.

Let’s delve into this scenario. …

What I Learned Sunday: You Deserve It.

Respect.

Respect.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS to the NBA champions, the Dallas Mavericks.

I’m not here to bash the Heat, or tell you about the stellar play of Dirk Nowitzki – all of that is well documented.

But, as the zeros were triple digits, and Dallas were crowned NBA kings, I noticed something that usually never happens.  Their celebration was subdued, not the rowdy enthusiastic, up and down jumping of come to see after watching years of championship games.

The Mavericks just gave each other hugs, with a stern gaze at each …

Sounds of the Summer: The Return of the Voice.

The Voice and Summer Belong Together.

The Voice and Summer Belong Together.

4/11/05 – Expectations were running nil.  It was her 10th studio album, and it seemed her glory of the 1990’s were far behind.  It was 2005 and it was 6 years since her last # 1 hit.  Shit – it was nearly half a decade since she had that Glitter filled nervous breakdown.

“It’s Like That” didn’t make a compelling argument either.  The beat was more annoying than Jermaine Dupri’s ad-libs, and Fat Man Scoop’s poor excuse to give the song club cred.…
