What I Learned on Sunday: The Many Faces of Fans.

LEE EVANS. DROPPED IT LIKE IT'S NOT.

LEE EVANS. DROPPED IT LIKE IT'S NOT.

Truth be told, through and through, I’m a Baltimore Ravens fan.  It’s the National Football League, and it seems as though America and their fans have a maniacal obsession with their respective teams.  I just so happen to live close to Baltimore, but far enough for no one to share my sentiment in love for the team.  NY, naturally and rightly so, is scattered with Giant and Jet fans all over.

The fate of the Raven season was sealed by a wide …

What I Learned This Week. SPORTS RUNS MY LIFE!!

Newark.

Newark.

All sorts of sports ran my life over the weekend, but for real, let’s keep it 100% – sports don’t really run my life – it is my life. I feel ambiguously guilty, yet presumably innocent, fully implicating my love affair with sport and wiping those guilty hands of mine on my wife – who has slowly become tainted. It was just yesterday that we saw Tim Tebow, with the help of his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ throw long balls all day against the #1 defense in the …

WHAT I LEARNED ON X-MAS: PRESENTS

MERRY X!

MERRY X!

AT ELEVEN YEARS YOUNG, the doldrums of September, October, and November seemed eternal.  Then December would hit – marking down, painfully, in permanent magic marker the day I would have that Sega Genesis hooked up to my 13-inch TV (with foil on the antenna), controller at hand, pressing the directional pad down and b simultaneously to see Sonic turn from blue hedgehog ducking to a ball of kinetic energy.  Those days of chasing those rings seem so far away now.

What I Learned on Sunday: Equating the Hate.

THE STEELERS TRIP US UP.

THE STEELERS TRIP US UP.

Although professional football encompasses 5 months of the year, the hatred towards the Pittsburgh Steelers is real – 24|7|365.  This is all by default of course – forgive me, for I’m a fan of the Baltimore Ravens. Of course that’s all within context. I don’t mean I’ll get violent if your allegiance is to the black and yellow (I may say something disparaging, jokingly) – in fact I have the utmost respect for how well they play each week, and how they usually get the …

What I Learned on Sunday: Competition.

For me, Sunday was one big twenty-four hour times of triumph.  Fresh off the heels of the Watch The Throne concert (Ayda’s first Jay-Z / Kanye West / The Throne / Rap Concert) with an extra hour of sleep within our respite, it started beautifully.

Photoshoot Fresh.

Photoshoot Fresh.

A year ago was my own triumph, completing 26.2 grueling miles within the 5 boroughs of the city I will always call home.   Initially, I started my original marathon running as a friendly competition to myself – just to see if I can …

What I Learned on Sunday: Philomath

DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.

DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.

‘Twas October.  My blog has been dying a slow death.  I aggressively re-kindled old muses, such as Basketball, Volleyball, Running – and ensconced new ones like documentary watching, and photography. Steadily I’ve been writing 2 novels, and sparsely reading (at least in my terms.)  And so the shift has been taking a toll on the blog.

At times, I want to hit myself over the head.  This isn’t me, I say.  I should be going in, and sitting down; reading these books, writing …

What I Learned on Sunday: Into the Fire.

ARE YOU READY?

ARE YOU READY?

It was the 3rd quarter, and the Oakland Raiders decided to take their chances on their new coveted quarterback Carson Palmer.  What did they have to lose besides two first round draft picks, or their start-of-the-season starter Jason Campbell?  It didn’t help that they were already down 21-0 vs. the suddenly surging Kansas City Chiefs.  Not only was Carson thrown into the fire – he was fed directly to the wolves – or the Chiefs rather.

And on Sunday, reinforced to me at least was the …
