What I Learned on Sunday: Into the Fire.

ARE YOU READY?

ARE YOU READY?

It was the 3rd quarter, and the Oakland Raiders decided to take their chances on their new coveted quarterback Carson Palmer.  What did they have to lose besides two first round draft picks, or their start-of-the-season starter Jason Campbell?  It didn’t help that they were already down 21-0 vs. the suddenly surging Kansas City Chiefs.  Not only was Carson thrown into the fire – he was fed directly to the wolves – or the Chiefs rather.

And on Sunday, reinforced to me at least was the …

What I Learned on Sunday: The Ends.

ANOTHER WIN.

ANOTHER WIN.

The ends should justify the means. And that means usually means the cause. The cause to me is the process – the grind in which, the progress counts, resiliency is a plus. For the beginning and the middle are often forgettable. The end is usually what’s unforgettable, what counts.

The motif surrounded me yesterday. As I was flipping on the TV between the stunning comeback the Green Bay Packers made vs. the Atlanta Falcons, or the suspense-filled season four finale of Breaking Bad, they both kept me at …

What I Learned on Sunday: Weeks Go Bye.

NOT LOOKING.

NOT LOOKING.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. In and out, we go about our day and make thousands of decisions that affect our short-term temperament, and often out long-term well-being. Sincerely, I apologize for the lack of bloggage. I’ve been on mental vacation.

I find myself watching too much TV, not working out enough, and often overlooking books on the shelf that I’ve been longing to read. What happened to you Pino44?

My mind has been all over the place. Mentally, I haven’t trained for …

BEARING BAD NEWS.

THE DAMAGE IS DONE. WHAT NEXT?

THE DAMAGE IS DONE. WHAT NEXT?

I spent a placid day partly in solitude, thinking of the busy weekend that was.  The talk on everyone’s mind was how the sucker David Ortiz, got sucker punched by Floyd Money, but ended his misery a little earlier nonetheless.  There were other things that happened in between, including a friend’s block party, flag football, and my favorite sport, volleyball. ALL AND ALL -  A GREAT WEEKEND.

What I Learned On Sunday: Closing Time

Autumn is the Fall of Summer.

Autumn is the Fall of Summer.

Yesterday deserved a moment of silence – a period, a comma. We already know why, but there were other things that celebrated the end.

Entrouage. Not mine, but the popular HBO original show, the male’s answer to Sex in the City has concluded on September 11th.  Everyone has differing opinions on the show and its direction, but its only fitting that it end.

Some feel that it has a religious following that even though some think the quality of the show has …

MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING.

NY.

NY.

Labor Day’s are usually hit or miss. Today, with the weather, the beach is a wash, and the sun is amiss.

Yesterday was different, especially at my home away from home, in the city of Long Beach. It didn’t feel like the unofficial end of summer. No, it felt retro, as if we were ensconced to the middle of July, as the best surfers in the world descended on New York waves for the first time ever for a competition.

And being a recreational surfer, yesterday wouldn’t normally be …

HOW FAR WE’VE COME

(THIS POST WAS DELAYED BECAUSE I JUST RECENTLY GOT INTERNET BACK UP.)

As the majority of the east coast braced itself for the eyes of Irene and all her glory in a hurricane (or tropical storm), I couldn’t help but think how far, as a nation we’ve come.  Almost six years ago around this time, the name Katrina became a moniker associated with the costliest natural disaster our free land has ever seen.  But Sunday was a testament to lessons learned from the past.  Category 5 or no Category at …
